Hold Your Horses! 🎉 Horsegirl Announces New Album for 2025
Hey music lovers! 🎶 Great news just galloped into our lives! The indie rock trio Horsegirl has officially announced their second LP, Phonetics On and On, set to release on February 14, 2025, under Matador Records. Forget those boring Valentine's plans; this is the perfect gift for anyone who appreciates unique guitar tones and intricate songwriting! 💖🎸
Who Are Horsegirl? 🐴
For those unacquainted, Horsegirl is a talented trio born out of Chicago's burgeoning underground music scene. Comprised of singer-guitarists Penelope Lowenstein and Nora Cheng, along with drummer Gigi Reece, they quickly made a name for themselves with their debut album, Versions of Modern Performance, which received rave reviews in 2022. 🎤✨ Their sound combines DIY charm with experimental rock elements, reminiscent of bands like The Velvet Underground and Yo La Tengo.
Chicago Vibes in Their New Album 🌆
The band returned to the Windy City to record Phonetics On and On at the Loft, a studio owned by Grammy-winning band Wilco. They collaborated with the talented Cate Le Bon, known for her innovative production. If you love an album that’s layered but not overly complicated, this is certainly one to circle on your calendars! 🗓️🔊
The lead single, “2468,” gives us a taste of what’s to come. It kicks off with a stunning violin intro that smoothly transitions into an upbeat counting refrain. Trust us; you’ll find yourself humming this one all day! 🎻🎶

What We Can Expect 🎷🎸
Fans are surely on the edge of their seats, buzzing with anticipation. From what we’ve heard, Horsegirl has kept their creative edge while evolving their sound. Lowenstein has previously mentioned that they didn’t initially write their new songs with festival crowds in mind, but they figured out pretty quickly how to translate their intimate sounds to larger stages. It will be exciting to see how their music adapts! 🌟
So let’s get ready to celebrate indie rock in its purest form. Will Phonetics On and On give us the sound of our dreams? We can’t wait to find out! 🥳
