GitHub Copilot Introduces New Limits and Charges for AI Models 🤖💸
The rapid evolution of AI tools has taken a new turn with GitHub's recent announcement regarding Copilot, its AI coding assistant. Effective May 5, 2025, GitHub will implement a system for what's being called "premium requests" for users who require access to advanced AI models beyond the basic functionality. Under the new setup, Copilot Pro subscribers—currently priced at $20 per month—will be limited to 300 premium requests each month when attempting to utilize advanced AI models like Anthropic’s 3.7 Sonnet. This is a significant shift from the previous model, and it reflects GitHub’s effort to balance advanced capabilities with operational costs.
For Copilot Business and Enterprise users, the limits will be higher—300 and 1,000 premium requests, respectively, set to kick in between May 12 and May 19. Users will also have the option to purchase additional premium requests at $0.04 each or upgrade to the new Copilot Pro+ plan starting at $39 per month, which includes 1,500 requests and access to the latest models.
